In what was an enthralling game between the Rising Pune Super Giants and the Sun Risers Hyderabad, Steve Smith’s side managed to win a nail biting thriller against his Aussie pal David Warner’s side. No prizes to guess who finished it off in style for Pune, it was of course MS Dhoni.
Earlier in the day, it was Captain Steve Smith who won the toss as RPS elected to bowl first. While Pune had debutant Washington Sundar coming in place of Rahul Chahar, SRH were missing the services of Yuvraj Singh who had fallen ill. Bipul Sharma was brought in place of him.
While SRH began well without losing wickets, runs came at a slow pace for them. Shikhar Dhawan was soon dismissed for an almost run a ball 30. Kane Williamson got a good start but failed to convert it into something big. On the other hand, David Warner too couldn’t get the run rate going inspite of scoring 43.
However, it was Moises Henriques who stepped up with some splendid power hitting on display. Facing 28 deliveries, Henriques smashed 55 runs not out as his spectacular effort in the end propelled SRH’s total to 176/3. Deepak Hooda’s cameo also came in handy for Hyderabad.
Daniel Christian was the only bowler who produced some clinical performance with figures of 1/20 in his four overs. Imran Tahir and Washington Sundar were looking good but surprisingly bowled just 3 overs. The other bowlers were taken away to the cleaners.
For Pune, Ajinkya Rahane continued his poor run in the IPL. On the other hand, his opening partner Rahul Tripathi went on to score an amazing half century. His innings of 59(41) included 6 boundaries and 3 sixes. Captain Steve Smith too looked good until he was outdone by a Rashid Khan delivery.
However the star of the day was MS Dhoni. He paced his innings according to the situation and quite like his reputation waited for the right moment to go bonkers. He had been criticised for his batting in the IPL so far and this innings was a perfect answer to all his detractors.
With 56 runs required in the last 4 overs, Ben Stokes was caught at mid wicket trying to hit a maximum. However, some sensational hitting by Dhoni and Manoj Tiwary helped RPS register their third victory this season. With two required off the last ball, Dhoni dispatched it for a four as he finished things off in style.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game.

The way Ben Stokes has played so far, he should get "Purple cap" for his batting and "Orange cap" for his bowling #RPSvSRH

I guess Kaul will bowl the last over.. It's OK Pune you can keep 30 runs in pocket. #LOLJK

55 off 24, 12 of those by Bhuvi. Will be one hell of a chase if Pune get there now

Terrific direct throw to get rid of dangerous Tripathi. How valuable has young Rashid Khan been for Hyderabad with ball and in the field!

Kaul goes too expensive in his first over. #RPSvSRH
— Jaanvi Singh (@CricketDevotee) April 22, 2017
It's one thing to give someone a role, another for him to actually come out and do it. Tripathi is doing it to perfection.
— Alagappan Vijaykumar (@IndianMourinho) April 22, 2017
1 run in 1 over. Pune can chase this easily in 176 overs. This is just first day of the test match. #IPL

If anyone was wondering why Henriques was picked in the CT squad hopefully this innings explains why #RPSvSRH
— Brett Graham (@worldofBG) April 22, 2017
Henriques showed batting wasn't difficult. Fear 176 may not be enough for #SRH. Will have to bowl really well
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 22, 2017
Henriques is the 2nd player after Nitish Rana to make 3 fifties this season. #RPSvSRH
— Bharath Seervi (@SeerviBharath) April 22, 2017
Ben Stokes would have been a better option to bowl the death overs, but you needed a reason to drop Shardul for the next match #RPSvSRH
— Shashi (@AllTimeBakchod) April 22, 2017
26 Balls half Century for Moises Henriques the only player looks flawless in this innings…
— Broken Cricket (@BrokenCricket) April 22, 2017

Shikhar Dhawan's strike-rate just doesn't cut it in T20s. SRH can open with Warner & Williamson, get someone like Vijay Shankar lower down.
— Saurabh Somani (@saurabh_42) April 22, 2017
Another good ODI innings from Dhawan. 30 off 29. ?? #RPSvSRH
— Sir Lazy (@iLazyLad) April 22, 2017
Sundar is 17 and is playing in the biggest cricket league in the world! And here I am, at 19, clueless about what to do in life fml #IPL
