MS Dhoni who has been on a record creating spree recently went on to reach another important landmark. As he crossed fifty runs in the first One-Day International against Australia, it marked his 100th half century in international cricket. He became only the fourth Indian to achieve the feat. The other three being all-time greats in the form of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly.

He had recently also become the first ever keeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODIs. Team India was struggling at 64/4 when Dhoni came out to bat. Having lost the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma early, the onus fell on Dhoni to deliver and recover India from the early slump. India lost Jadhav too later reducing them to 87/5.

That’s when MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya stitched a scintillating partnership of 118 runs for the sixth wicket. MS Dhoni went on to play a sensational knock of 79 runs. In the process, he scored his 100th international fifty on a ground which is his second home after Ranchi.

Dhoni did get out in the final over but only after hitting a six and attempting another off James Faulkner. He is on his way to another major record as he closes into 10000 runs in ODIs. If he gets ample opportunities, he may well accomplish the feat in this series.

Twitter was much overjoyed as Chepauk was to watch their Thala bat so well. This was a typical Dhoni innings in the middle as he came to rescue India from the early slump and successfully managed to take them to a good total. India posted 281/7 in their quota of 50 overs which was good enough after the poor start.

Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions on Dhoni’s 100 fifties milestone:
