Unlike the usual trend in his cricketing career, things haven’t really gone MS Dhoni’s way in the recent past. After having been sacked from the Rising Pune Supergiant captaincy, Dhoni is struggling to find some form with the bat as well.

Batting against the Gujarat Lions on Friday, MSD went for the lofted drive over long on, only to be rapped on the pads and given out LBW. His former CSK teammate Ravindra Jadeja, making a comeback into the Lions’ side, had the last laugh.

A superstar in his own rights for his endless list of achievements, MS Dhoni has been venerated by the entire cricketing world. Nevertheless, following his poor run with the bad, many eyebrows have been raised regarding the big man’s form.

In the four matches, he’s batted so far, MSD has been able to score just 33 runs. He remained unbeaten on 12 in the Supergiant’s first game of the season. Nevertheless, it’s been only downhill from there for Dhoni, with runs as well as wins not coming his way.

As a matter of fact, MS Dhoni hasn’t had a great season with the bat during his stay at with the Rising Pune Supergiant. Dhoni was able to score 284 runs in the 2016 edition of the IPL. Surprisingly, this was his lowest season-wise aggregate in the Indian Premier League, Back in 2010, Dhoni had scored a total of 287 runs, which remained his lowest total in a single IPL season until 2016.

It seems as though people have forgotten what Mahendra Singh Dhoni can do in IPL conditions. 2016 was not the best of years for Dhoni, who was usually used to making the qualifiers or even the finals during his long stint as captain of the Chennai Super Kings.

Then again, it makes little sense to write off MS Dhoni. This man has been the pillar of Indian cricket in the last decade, and his illustrious career is second to none. The likes of Brett Lee and even RPS skipper Steve Smith have come out in support of the great MS Dhoni. It’s only a matter of time before MSD brings back the fireworks onto the field.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Dhoni’s poor run with the bat after he was dismissed for 5 against the Gujarat Lions.
