Pakistan defeated the hosts Netherlands in a commanding win in the second ODI to clinch the series after two consecutive victories. Babar Azam led from the front after the Paksitani bowlers had restricted the hosts to a below-par score in the first innings. Pakistan got over the line with seven wickets in the bag.
Chasing a total of 187 runs, Pakistan’s pursuit was off to a wobbly start as they lost both their openers inside the first four overs. The hosts were in the ascendency after those early blows, but skipper Babar Azam, as he does often, steadied the ship for Pakistan with a solid 88-run third-wicket stand with the experienced Mohammad Rizwan.
The Pakistani run machine registered his second consecutive fifty and was looking good in imperious touch before mistiming his pull just after his fifty. Babar’s dismissal came a little too late as Mohammad Rizwan continued on his merry way, registering another half-century stand with the newcomer Agha Salman, also notching up his personal half-century in the process. Agha Salman hit the winning runs for the Pakistani team, registering his maiden fifty with a six to end the match.
Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf rattled the Dutch batters with the new ball to set up the win
Earlier in the match, The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision they regretted instantly as Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf breathed fire down the necks of the Dutch batters, dismissing the top three for a total of just eight runs. Bas de Leede (89 off 120) and Tom Cooper (66 off 74) stitched up an invaluable 109 runs stand for the fourth wicket, consolidating after those early setbacks.
The hosts were looking set for a score well above 200, but the dismissal of Tom Cooper triggered a mini-collapse as the Dutch lost three wickets for just 11 runs, derailing their hopes of a competitive score. The Pakistani bowlers then ran through the tail pretty quickly to restrict Netherland to a paltry total of 186 runs.
Naseem Shah’s stature in white-ball cricket is growing rapidly as he compiled another impressive outing with the new ball, scalping two wickets. Meanwhile, Haris Rauf rattled the opposite batters with his pace, accounting for three wickets and the left-arm spin of Mohammad Nawaz was too much to handle for the Dutch batters in the middle overs, bagging three wickets.
