The visiting Pakistan team registered a resounding victory by 18 runs over the host Kiwi side in the final T20 international match, to take home the three-match T20I series 2-1. The fashionable win came after a dismal run in the early part of the tour, where they were convincingly defeated by the hosts 5-0 in the five-match ODI series. But this thrilling and memorable series victory would surely give huge confidence and act as a great motivation to the less experienced bunch from Pakistan.
Strong total on the board
The visiting skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first on a good batting track with the idea of putting up the runs on the board and then getting the opposition under pressure. Aggressive opener Fakhar Zaman provided a steady start to his team but lost his companion Ahmed Shehzad with just 30 runs on the scoreboard.
The left-hander continued to tonk the ball while playing a crucial hand with a knock of 46 runs off 36 balls. The middle-order batsmen which included skipper Sarfraz, all-rounder Haris Sohail and Umar Amin provided with some useful contributions in the end, which helped their team finish with 181 runs on the board.
Kiwis left reeling in the chase despite Guptill’s half-century
In the reply, New Zealand were forced to introduce a new opening partner for Martin Guptill in their skipper Kane Williamson, in the absence of regular explosive opener Colin Munro. But the idea of promoting Williamson backfired as he was dismissed early for just 9 runs.
Guptill was the most impressive batsman for the hosts in the difficult chase as the rest of the players failed to provide him the desired support. And after the dismissal of the opener in the 13th over having scored a half-century, it was always going to be a hard task for the Kiwis to chase the total.
Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner played a crucial cameo of 24 runs but could not help his team seal the deal in the final T20I match. Eventually, the visitors claimed an incredible win by 18 runs and also won the series 2-1. On the back of this performance, Pakistan are now once again the proud holders of the numeruno position in the ICC T20I team rankings.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions on their success:
The whole commentary box believe the Fakhar dismissal hit the ground. But every game this happens and nothing is done. Either all out or all not out. #NZvPAK
