The much-awaited Test series between Australia and India commenced on Thursday. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first. India had announced the playing XI 24 hours before the toss itself displaying the confidence in their players ahead of the opener. Despite not scoring much in the warm-up games in four innings, they stuck with the dynamic opening batsman Prithvi Shaw.

And the move didn’t pay off for Team India as they lost Shaw in the very first over itself. He played on a length delivery straight on to his stumps trying to drive a ball very early in the innings. It was a perfect ball to induce a shot off the batsman and Prithvi Shaw fell into the trap straightaway. The stumps shattered much to the delight of Mitchell Starc and his teammates along with the fans.

The Indian fans, however, weren’t pleased at all with the way the team started the Test. They lashed out at Prithvi Shaw for not contributing anything to the total and getting out cheaply yet again.

Fans ask why Gill and Rahul didn’t play

There were calls for KL Rahul or Shubman Gill to include in the playing XI ahead of the Test series. Moreover, Prithvi Shaw wasn’t looking in the best of nicks based on the way he batted in the four innings. For the same reason, the fans and certain experts were of the opinion that India should start with Shubman Gill or KL Rahul as an opener along with Mayank Agarwal.

The tourists are missing Rohit Sharma who will not play the first two Tests having just reached Australia. He is currently undergoing mandatory 14-day quarantine and will be available for the last two matches of the series. As far as India is concerned, they will be hoping to recover from early blow and put up a decent total on the board in the first innings. Australia, however, will be keen on making further inroads to put more pressure on the opposition.
