The Sri Lankan batsmen put up a pitiful show in the second ODI as well as South Africa took a 2-0 lead in the series. Quinton de Kock was the star in this win for the home team. The left-hander played a fine knock of 94 in the match putting his team slightly ahead in the game.

However, the Proteas failed to capitalise on the start that he provided. The middle-order capitulated and the side ended up putting a mediocre total on the board. Even though this should have been chased down by Sri Lanka, they never got their act together. The batsmen have to be blamed for this loss as the visitors are on the verge of losing the series.

Quinton de Kock misses out on a well-deserved century

After being put into bat first, Quinton de Kock continued with his rich vein of form. He was brutal at the top of the order and took the attack to the bowlers. The wicket-keeper batsman smashed 17 fours and 1 six in his innings as he mustered 94 runs in just 70 balls. Meanwhile, his partner Reeza Hendricks failed to have the best of the outing as he was dismissed for 29. Faf du Plessis, who notched up a wonderful century in the first ODI played a good knock yet again.

He scored 57 runs off 66 deliveries before he got out. However, the middle-order of the South Africa line-up didn’t live up to the expectations. 25 runs from David Miller was the highest score amongst the next eight players. While Thisara Perera picked up three wickets, Lasith Malinga and Dhananjaya de Silva accounted for two scalps each as the home team was bundled out for 251 runs in 45.1 overs.

Sri Lanka make a mockery of the chase

It wasn’t a tough pitch to bat on. The track was slightly two-paced with some uneven bounce but 252 was easily chaseable. However, the Asian team ended up making a complete mess as they were bowled out for 138 runs losing the game by a massive 113 runs. No one managed to get going in the innings. Oshada Fernando, with 31 runs, was the leading run-scorer.

Kagiso Rabada surpassed the 100-wicket mark in ODI cricket as he picked three scalped in this innings. Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje and Imran Tahir picked up two wickets each. Wishes began to pour in for Kagiso Rabada after the achievement. Twitterati was impressed with Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis yet again.
