The crowd at the MCG witnessed a spectacular run chase by the visitors. The One-Day International series between Australia and England was off to a kickstart. Jason Roy’s fantastic knock overshadowed Aaron Finch’s century earlier, as England lead the series 1-0. England elected to field first and preferred Mark Wood over Jake Ball or David Willey. Australia handed Andrew Tye his debut.
Batting first, David Warner was dismissed cheaply in the second over. Skipper Steve Smith didn’t stay at the crease for long as well. Travis Head too followed him as the hosts were reduced to 78/3 at one stage. However, Finch continued to display his sensational form at the MCG.
Mitchell Marsh and Finch put up 118 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. While Marsh scored a superb fifty, it was the opener’s knock that was the highlight of the Australian innings. The right-hander scored a marvellous 107 runs with ten boundaries and three maximums.
Once Finch and Marsh were dismissed in quick succession, Marcus Stoinis took over with a whirlwind fifty in the end. While he got out, Australia managed to touch the 300-run mark by the end of their 50 overs. Leaving Moeen Ali and Mark Wood, the rest of the bowling lineup was taken for the cleaners. Liam Plunkett picked three wickets but was on the expensive side.
The English innings was off to a splendour start. Roy seemed to be in the hitting mode as England were 51/0 in 4.2 overs. Australia managed to bounce back by getting the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales. However, once Joe Root came in, there was no stopping these two.
Both the batsmen put up an astounding partnership of 221 runs for the third wicket. The way Roy and Root batted, their innings sealed the deal for England. Jason Roy scored a blistering knock of 180 runs from just 151 balls. His innings had 16 boundaries and five sixes. It was also the highest score ever by an English player.
Joe Root was also brilliant as he stayed not out on 91. England went on to win the game by 5 wickets with 7 balls to spare. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins both got a couple of wickets but were expensive. While Roy and Finch were applauded for their knocks, it was Zampa who was at the receiving end on Twitter.

I know they are different formats but the attitude of the one day side seems to be so different to the test even though a lot of the same players. #AusVsEng

Adam Zampa is really just a very poor mans Shane Warne. Blond hair and an Australian passport is about as much as they have in common #bbccricket

Adam Zampa and Steve Smith. Separated at birth? #AUSvENG

Adam Zampa is a spin bowler and a flat earther which is about as dumb as you can get

The ball is either hitting the centre of Roy's bat or taking the faintest knick going to the boundary or falling short of the fielders & then there are deliveries which are missing the bat.
Basically its Roy's day today. #AUSvENG

Split captaincy works. Root, one the best all-round batsman in world cricket, pressure off. Just making runs. Makes sense. #AUSvENG #bbccricket

That'll be a tick for the recast Aust middle order after the loss of three early wickets – Marsh, Stoinis and Paine all contributing #AUSvENG

In overs 11-40 in ODIs both sides are often happy for six singles an over. Maybe a version of cricket with these overs excluded would be popular. #AUSvENG

Finch is the shortest man in Australia. Sensibly fielding on the boundary. #AUSvENG

Very good ? from Jason Roy – some electrifying shots in the early stages & solidifying well for his team now #AUSvENG

Hard not to watch this spell from Mark Wood and conclude that, had he been fit, England would have won Euro 96. #AusvEng

Key moment: Zampa has Roy lbw with a googly but England's referral shows it hit him outside the line. Roy then hoists the same bowler over long on for six #AUSvENG

Roy has been undercover agent during big bash… making Aussies think he’s out of nick then bang ..?? #ENGvAUS ?
