The Chinnaswamy stadium witnessed an absolute thriller as the Rising Pune Supergiant came back from 3 consecutive losses to win this game by 27 runs. Earlier in the day, it was captain Virat Kohli who won the toss as Royal Challengers Bangalore elected to field first.
Chris Gayle made way for Shane Watson while Adam Milne replaced Tymal Mills in the playing XI. Pune also made two changes as Daniel Christian and Jaydev Unadkat came in for Lockie Ferguson and Ankit Sharma.
RPS openers Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi provided a kickstart to the innings with a fifty run partnership for the first wicket. After both got out, Steve Smith and MS Dhoni took the initiative of taking the game forward. Just as both looked to accelerate gears, wickets started tumbling.
Dhoni’s wicket triggered a collapse as RPS went from 127/2 to 130/7 in no time. Ben Stokes and Daniel Christian failed to make any difference. However, a late charge by Manoj Tiwary who scored a quickfire 27(11) propelled RPS total to 161/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Adam Milne and Sreenath Aravind were the game changers for RCB as both picked a couple of wickets each.
RCB lost Mandeep Singh in the second over. Virat Kohli looked in a great shape before he mistimed a short ball off Stokes. AB De Villiers who was looking to go for hit ended up becoming a victim to a lightning stump by Dhoni. With the match in balance, RPS bowlers tried to apply pressure to the RCB batsmen.
Kedhar Jadhav and Shane Watson failed to get going as the RPS bowlers made merry. The required rate climbed high as Stuart Binny tried to replicate some magic in the end. Unfortunately, he was bowled by Shardul Thakur as RCB could only manage 134/9 in 20 overs.
Ben Stokes produced brilliant figures of 3/18 in his quota of four overs. He was deservingly awarded the man of the match. Shardul Thakur also managed to get 3 wickets to his name while Jaydev Unadkat got a couple as well.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game.

Fact: Kohli never gets a team which can win by chasing on its own. Bloody has to carry the pressure every time.

England players so far having a tough time in the IPL. Either not playing, dropped, bowling being hammered or lack of runs. Can only improve

Having got their mandatory one win for the season off their back, Pune reverting to playing the type of cricket that makes Punekars proud.
