In what was an exciting contest between both the sides, Rising Pune Supergiant achieved a comfortable win against the Kolkata Knight Riders. This was their third consecutive victory on the trot as they now climbed up to the third position in the points table. Earlier in the day, it was captain Steve Smith who won the toss as the Supergiant elected to bowl first.

They played an unchanged XI from their last game. For KKR, Robin Uthappa who had a niggle didn’t play the game as Suryakumar Yadav replaced him. The Sunil Narine experiment failed again as Jaydev Unadkat bowled a wicket maiden first over to him. Sheldon Jackson too was out hit wicket as he tried to go back foot. Gautam Gambhir who looked good for a while ended up getting out for 24 (19).

While Manish Pandey batted well from the other end, Yusuf Pathan continued his poor run as he was trapped in front of the stumps by Imran Tahir. Colin de Grandhomme and Suryakumar Yadav then took the initiative of guiding KKR to a respective total as they both scored crucial 30s.

The Knight Riders were restricted to 155/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers with 2/28 while Washington Sundar also managed to get a couple of wickets. Ben Stokes and Daniel Christian picked a wicket each.

For RPS, Ajinkya Rahane continued to disappoint as he was back to the dugout in the second over. Captain Steve Smith was also dismissed cheaply. The day belonged to opener Rahul Tripathi who went on to score a magnificent 93 runs from just 52 balls. He hit 9 boundaries and 7 sixes in his knock.

While the likes of Manoj Tiwary, Ben Stokes and MS Dhoni failed to get going, Tripathi made sure that RPS had this game in the bag with his fantastic match winning knock. The hosts went on to win the game by four wickets.

Chris Woakes was the pick of the bowlers with 3/18. Sunil Narine was also quite economical with a splendid 1/28. The rest of the KKR bowling was taken away to the cleaners. Rahul Tripathi was deservingly rewarded the man of the match.
