Before the World Cup, Rohit Sharma was deemed to be a key batsman in the Indian team. Thus far, he hasn’t disappointed the team or the fans by any stretch of the imagination. He notched a century versus South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton in their tournament opener, but couldn’t quite get going against Australia. However, the right-handed batsman made amends in the marquee clash versus Pakistan.

After India lost the toss and were put in to bat first, there was no stopping Rohit as he went on to score his 24th ODI century and his second in the mega event. At no point in his awe-inspiring knock did he look uncomfortable. He played with caution in the early part of his innings, but once he got his eyes in, there was no stopping the 32-year-old and Pakistan team was found chasing the leather.

He negated the threat of Mohammad Amir while facing the new ball and went about his business in a clinical way. He was attacked with the short-pitched deliveries, but Rohit staved them off with sheer authority. The experienced campaigner stitched together an opening-wicket partnership of 136 runs off 23.5 overs along with KL Rahul to well and truly put India in the driver’s seat.

Rohit Sharma enthrals the Manchester crowd

He got to his half-century off a mere 34 balls and looked ominous to get a big score. In the 24th over, he lost his partner Rahul, who scored 57 runs off 78 balls, to left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz. However, the situation didn’t fluster Rohit and he kept creaming the Pakistan bowling. Prior to this game, Rohit averaged 44.61 versus the Men in Green, scoring 580 runs in 15 matches with one century. The ton came in the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He accomplished his second century versus Pakistan in the 30th over of this innings. Shadab Khan bowled a short-pitched ball and Rohit picked up an easy single to bring up his ton from 85 balls. After the magnificent knock, he was showered with praises from every nook and corner of the cricketing fraternity.

Here is how Twitter lauded Rohit for his century:
