Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pakistan lost one early wicket before Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammed Hafeez took over. They built a 95 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket with both the batsmen scoring sensational half centuries.

However, at the end of the day, it was Shahid Afridi who stole the show. Promoting himself to No.4, Afridi announced his arrival on the crease by smashing 2 boundaries and a six on the first four balls off Mortaza.

He went after every Bangladeshi bowler and swayed them away according to his own will. With an absolute magnificent display of pinch hitting that included 4 sixes and 4 boundaries, Shahid Afridi raced his way to 49 off just 18 deliveries before getting out, trying to hit another over the fence. His innings made sure Pakistan reached the 200 mark for the first time in a WT20 game.

Surrounded by controversial statements with speculations rising about his retirement and under fire from all quarters, Shahid Afridi played a fantastic captain’s knock and managed to silence all his critics. The Eden Gardens crowd rose to applause the Afridi blitz.

Afridi’s innings kept everyone on Twitter buzzing. Everyone seemed quite happy to see the vintage Afridi back to his very own. Here are some of the Twitter reactions on Shahid Afridi’s thunderous innings.
