Team India created history when they beat South Africa in the fifth ODI of the ongoing 6-match series. The win sealed the series for them – their first ever series win in the format on the South African soil. While the Indian team were spot on with their executions and the permutations on the field, the hosts were visibly swept off their feet in the series. Amidst this backdrop, the action returned to Centurion for the final game of the series.
A dead rubber of all sorts, Centurion ODI came as the opportunity for team South Africa to play for their pride. It is worth noting that the previous game played at the venue between these two sides had seen the Men in Blue notch up a thumping 9 wicket win. Coming in to the game, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. India made just one change to bring in Shardul Thakur in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
On the other hand, the South African team made four changes, hoping for a turn in fortunes. They received an early blow in the innings with Shardul Thakur dismissing Hashim Amla for just 10. Thakur soon accounted for the dismissal of Aiden Markram on 30 as well with Shreyas Iyer plucking a stunner in the covers. AB de Villiers and Khaya Zondo then steadied the ship for South Africa.
The duo added a crucial 62 run stand for the third wicket before an uncalled shot saw de Villiers (30) getting bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal. Heinrich Klaasen (22) took his time to muster 22 runs but a fine catch from Virat Kohli saw him head back to the pavilion as well. Wickets of Farhaan Behardien (1) and Chris Morris (4) fell in quick succession as Khaya Zondo clearly ran out of partners.
Zondo managed to scrape through to his personal milestone – his maiden ODI fifty. However, the Dolphins skipper could not add many after his fifty. He perished to a Chahal delivery on 54. His knock came off 74 deliveries and was studded with three fours and a couple of sixes.
Andile Phehlukwayo was left with a task too difficult to accomplish. In the end, he was the last wicket to perish. He was dismissed on 34 that came off 42 deliveries with 2 fours and as many number of sixes. South Africa finished their innings on 204 in 46.5 overs as Shardul Thakur finished with figures of 4/52in 8.5 overs for India.
Here is how the fans reacted to South Africa innings in the Centurion ODI:

Surprised Kohli didn't bat first today, to be honest. South Africa's success rate chasing Indians this week has been hopeless. #SAvIND
