Outstanding hundreds from Smriti Mandhana (123) and Harmanpreet Kaur (109) helped India to post an above par score of 317/8 against West Indies, in their third game at the 2022 ODI Women’s World Cup being played in Seddon Park, Hamilton. It is to be noted that the women in blue had a very disappointing outing against New Zealand in the second game of tournament.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, team India were aggressive from ball one of the match, scoring 49 runs in 6.3 overs before opener Yastika Bhatia got out after playing a knock of 31 off just 21 balls smashing six boundaries in the process. Skipper Mithali Raj could not hang in there for too long as she scored just five runs before making way left-handed batter Deepti Sharma. The duo put on 30 runs together with Deepti getting 15 of those before Anisa Mohammed sent her packing. After Deepti’s wicket, India were 78/3 and in a spot of bother.

Mandhana was then joined by the experienced batter Harmanpreet Kaur. Both batters steadied India‘s innings after initial stumble. The left-right duo took charge on the West Indies bowlers after settling in, smashing them for boundaries on regular intervals and adding 184 runs between them.

Opener Mandhana completed her century in 40th over after smashing a boundary off Hayley Mathews. The left-handed batter made 123 runs, smashing 13 boundaries and two sixes in the process. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet, who was the key to take India past the 300-mark, also completed her century in the 46th over of the match. The 33-year-old hit 10 fours and two sixes as well

Harmanpreet’s knock made her the first Indian batter to score three centuries at the Women’s World Cups, while Mandhana has scored two as well now. As a result of their knocks, India scored 317 runs in their allotted 50 overs. This was the first time that the women in blue have crossed the 300-run mark in the history of the tournament.
