South Africa are currently playing a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The first match in Galle turned out to be one-sided as the home team decimated Faf du Plessis and Co to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second Test is currently being played at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The pitch in Galle helped the spinners and it hasn’t been any different in the current Test.

The home team, captained by Suranga Lakmal, piled on 338 runs on the board courtesy of half-centuries from Danushka Gunathilaka, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Dhananjaya de Silva. The lower order displayed stern resistance as Rangana Herath and Akila Dananjaya cobbled together a stand of 74 runs for the tenth wicket to guide their team to the respectable score.

Keshav Maharaj was the pick of their bowlers with bowling figures of 41.1-10-129-9. The visitors had a massive chance to play decently and give the Lankans a run for their money. However, they couldn’t and were bowled out for a paltry 124 runs. Yet again, the spinners turned out to be a major thorn in the flesh of the batting lineup. Most importantly, they conceded a lead of 214 runs.

Proteas alarmingly capitulate

Sri Lanka opted not to use any of their fast-bowlers. The likes of Dilruwan Perera, Akila Dananjaya, and Rangana Herath bowled 34.5 overs between them in which the Proteas innings folded. While Dananjaya finished with a five-wicket haul, Perera nipped out four wickets. Herath picked up the crucial scalp of right-handed opening batsman Aiden Markram.

Du Plessis’ men lost three early wickets, however, Hashim Amla and skipper du Plessis brought them back in the match with a partnership of 55 runs. South Africa capitulated thereafter and lost their next six wickets for 54 runs. Quinton de Kock tried his heart out with a knock of 32 runs in quick-time, but he got no semblance of support from his fellow batters.

The last five wickets fell for 10 runs in a space of 26 deliveries. Meanwhile, Twitter was shell-shocked by the visiting team’s collapse.
