In a pure one-sided match at Johannesburg, the Sri Lankans were completely outplayed in all departments by the Proteas. In what was yet another disappointing outing for Sri Lanka they were defeated by an innings and 118 runs by the South Africans. The hosts went on to complete a 3-0 whitewash as they hammered the Sri Lankan team by getting them all out for totals as low as 131 and 177.

There was quite a sense of disappointment among the Sri Lankan fans as their team didn’t even manage to put up a fight. They resumed from their overnight score of 80/4 and kept losing wickets at regular intervals as prime batsmen like Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, and Upul Tharanga departed without much contributions. They eventually were bowled out for 131. Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander took three wickets each while Wayne Parnell and Duanne Olivier also managed to grab a couple of wickets apiece.

Asked to follow on by the hosts, Kaushal Silva got out on the very first ball he faced. While Karunaratne scored a half century, no one else managed to hang around or pose any resistance. The Sri Lankan batting was completely off colour and weren’t prepared for the conditions. They were once again bowled out in the day for 177 runs.

On the other hand, the South Africans bowled brilliantly as a unit. They didn’t allow the momentum to shift even slightly. Parnell was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets while Olivier got 3 wickets. Rabada again got a couple of wickets while Philander got the wicket of Chandimal.

For his brilliant century, JP Duminy was awarded the man of the match while Dean Elgar was announced as the man of the series. Twitter was quite amused by the bowling performance of the South Africans. At the same time, they weren’t quite pleased with the poor batting by the Sri Lankans. Here are some of the amazing twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
