Twitter Reactions: Sri Lanka secures an easy win over West Indies in the 1st T20I: Sri Lanka had an easy day in the field today as they easily beat West Indies in the 1st T20I at Pallekele. The match was delayed by rain, but the match was played under normal circumstances and remained a full 20 over competition.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first. This decision backfired them as openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kusal Perera launched an aggressive assault on West Indies. Dilshan scored a half century while every other batsman who batted contributed impressively. K.Perera (40 runs from 30 balls), S. Jayasuriya (36 runs from 22 balls). Dinesh Chandimal (40 from 19 balls) and Angelo Matthews (37 from 13 balls) remained not out till the end of the innings. The combined efforts by the Lankan batsmen enabled them to post a giant 215/3 in 20 overs. 22 sixes were hit in total by Lankan batsmen in this match. It happens to be the most number of sixes hit in a T20I in Sri Lanka. Also, the most in a match involving Sri Lanka.
Every West Indies bowlers used by captain Darren Sammy was expensive. Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine were the only successful wicket-takers for Windies.
West Indies lost two crucial wickets in the first five overs. Opener Fletcher was the standout batsman for West Indies as he struck a half century. However, he lost his wicket at a crucial moment. Andre Russell (16 from 8 balls), Bravo (24 runs from 12 balls) and Kieron Pollard (26 runs from 18 balls) tried to take West Indies past the finishing line. However, their efforts were not enough as West Indies bundled up fro 185 in 19.5 overs.
For Sri Lanka, Sachitra Senanayake (4/46) was their star performer with the ball. Lasith Malinga (2/19) in his four overs was also very impressive. Dushmantha Chameera, who was on his T20 debut and S. Jayasuriya picked one wicket each.
West Indies had a tough day. They went down fighting but will try to take revenge in the 2nd T20I at Colombo (RPS).
