The third match for the Rising Pune Supergiant started off on a poor note. Much against all expectations, the crowds did not get to see Steve Smith out for the toss. It came as a big surprise to see Ajinkya Rahane walk in as the captain for the match against Delhi Daredevils. Surely, the Delhi camp was a happy unit seeing no Smith at the toss. As soon as Rahane won the toss, Ravi Shastri was quick to ask about the Australian captain.

Well, the reason given by Rahane will only make you grin. The Indian batsman revealed that it is an upset stomach that sees Steve Smith sit out of this particular match. “Unfortunately, Smith is not well and I had to step in. It is an opportunity for the boys and hopefully, we will do well. Stomach bug keeps Smith out,” quoted Rahane. For now, we hope that Steve gets well soon enough and gets back to fitness as well.

It will only be nice for the revamped Supergiant camp to see the services of their regular skipper at the crease again. Meanwhile, the social media could not stop laughing about the entire episode. The stomach bug reminded the people of the incident that had perspired during the first Test between India and Australia. Interestingly, even that match was played at the very same venue. It seems that the Pune food is definitely not suited for the Aussie stomachs.

Back in time during the Test game, opener Matt Renshaw was seen running back to the pavilion midway through the innings due to an upset stomach. He was heavily trolled on the social media for his antics. Now, Steve Smith has found himself to be the butt of all jokes.

Another thing that surprised the fans was to not see MS Dhoni lead the side. It comes as a surprise to see Dhoni sit in the playing eleven and not leading the side despite the absence of the regular skipper. He was the captain of the team last year when the team had finished 7th. This year, the RPS owners had sacked him from the position. It is perhaps this reason that Dhoni did not walk out as the captain since we was replaced as the captain and had not stepped down on his own.

Here is how the Twitter reacted to the stomach bug of Steve Smith and Dhoni’s non-captaincy avatar:
