In what was an entertaining game between the Kings XI Punjab and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shaun Marsh’s wonderful effort went in vain as Punjab lost by 26 runs. SRH managed to stay at the third spot in the points table while Kings XI Punjab stands sixth.

Earlier in the day, it was captain Glenn Maxwell who won the toss as Kings XI Punjab elected to field first. Martin Guptill, Eoin Morgan, Ishant Sharma and Anureet Singh were brought into the playing XI for Punjab. SRH included Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra.

Sunrisers had a kickstart to their innings with David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan displaying some sensational batting performance. Both put up a spectacular 107 runs partnership for the first wicket in just 10 overs.

While David Warner scored splendid 51 runs from just 27 balls with 4 sixes, Dhawan went on to score a magnificent 77 runs knock from 48 balls. Once both were back to the pavilion, Kane Williamson came forward and played a fascinating knock of 54 from just 27 balls. His innings ensured SRH ended up with 207/3 in their quota of 20 overs.

Glenn Maxwell was surprisingly the only bowler who showed some promise as he had bowling figures of 2/29. The rest of the bowling lineup was taken to the cleaners. The likes of Ishant Sharma, KC Cariappa, Anureet Singh and Axar Patel were thrashed by the SRH batsmen.

Martin Guptill who was playing his first game this season started well. However, he failed to convert it into a big one. Manan Vohra and captain Glenn Maxwell also were dismissed in quick succession which left KXIP reeling at 42/3. It seemed highly unlikely that Punjab would chase the mammoth total.

However, there was some twist in the tale. Shaun Marsh played an excellent inning of power hitting. He smashed a brilliant 84 from just 50 balls as KXIP came really close to the target. He failed to find any support from the other batsmen though. Playing a lone hand, Marsh finally got out skying one by Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Deepak Hooda.

While Axar Patel tried his bit, too much was required on the board as SRH managed to win the game by 26 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar had clinical bowling figures of 2/29 while Rashid Khan was absolutely class in his 1/16 from 4 overs. Rashid was deservingly awarded the man of the match.
