The Chennai Super Kings had announced their arrival at their new venue in grand style in the previous home game. They had won their previous game in Pune and hence, arrived with some serious confidence at the same venue for their third home game of the season. It was their second home game in Pune and they hosted the Mumbai Indians in the marquee clash. Over the years, the rivalry between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians has been one of the most celebrated rivalries in the tournament.
The anticipation for the game was quite high. The last time these two sides had met in the season was in the season opener in Mumbai. Back then, the CSK side had won the cliffhanger. And now at the half way stage in the game in Pune, the Mumbai Indians have a very good chance to take the revenge.
In the match, it was Rohit Sharma who won the toss for the Mumbai Indians and he decided to bowl first. The Super Kings lost their first wicket early in the game with Shane Watson perishing for just 12. Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu then steadied the ship for the Chennai Super Kings. The veteran duo added a 71 runs for the second wicket to put the hosts in the driver’s seat.
It was Krunal Pandya who broke the partnership and dismissed Ambati Rayudu on 46. Rayudu’s 46 came off just 35 deliveries with a couple of fours and four sixes. His stellar run in the season is a big plus for the Chennai camp. After his dismissal, MS Dhoni also chipped in with a handy cameo of 26 runs in 21 deliveries. He had the crowd moving on their feet. Dhoni perished in his attempt to accelerate.
The wicket of Dwayne Bravo perished soon as well on a golden duck. It was Suresh Raina, who held the dwindling innings from one end. Raina notched up yet another fifty. Raina remained unbeaten on 75 off 47 deliveries as Chennai Super Kings posted 169/5 on the board in their stipulated 20 overs.
Here is how the fans reacted to the Chennai Super Kings innings:
Jadeja can't bat. Jadeja can't bowl. Jadeja can perfectly fit in an HR role #CSKvsMI

MS Dhoni possesses such a commanding presence that his dismissal seems a sad moment of the game @ChennaiIPL #CSKvsMI #VIVOIPL

Dhoni went down the track, played a full fledged shot, missed it and then safely came back to his crease without being stumped. And the keeper actually collected the ball cleanly. WTF. ? #CSKvMI

CSK would have liked 5-7 runs more. This score is under par, but they can still win the game if the spinners bowl well. Not easy timing the old ball on this pitch. #CSKvMI

Yesterday one of my friends laughed when I counted Suresh Raina in among the CSK match winners. He laughed and said Raina is done. Well. #CSKvMI
