It was the battle of the points table summit in the 27th game of the Caribbean Premier League. The Trinbago Knight Riders played hosts to the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. Both these team won five out the seven games they played before this match. They had 10 points to their tally and a win here could place them right on the top of the points table.

Hence, in this, all crucial encounter, both the teams were expected to give some tough competition to each other. However, the match ended up being a one-sided affair as the Trinbago Knight Riders subjugated the Guyana Amazon Warriors on a track that was difficult to bat on.

Being a great ground to chase on, Rayad Emrit had no hesitations to bowl first after winning the toss. Trinbago Knight Riders went into this game with a different opening combination. Sunil Narine, who hasn’t live up to the expectations with the bat this tournament was slumped down the order. It was Colin Munro who opened the innings with Chris Lynn. However, the hosts suffered a big blow as Chris Lynn was dismissed for a duck.

Denesh Ramdin was promoted up the order and he played the anchor while Munro took the attack to the bowlers. The former scored 39 off 36 balls while the latter played a brilliant innings of 90 which came off 56 balls. Munro missed out on a well-deserved century and got out in the 17th over. The Knights scored 170 runs in their quota of 20 overs after losing 7 wickets.

Warriors fumble in the chase

Although 171 is generally not a tough ask, chasing on this track wasn’t easy. The Warriors did not have any stand out performers in their innings like Munro for the Knights. Both their openers fell cheaply. Although Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Mohammad looked to put the innings back on track, both of them were dismissed at the wrong time as the Warriors’ innings kept sinking further down. They were 5 wickets in the first 7 overs and there wasn’t any chance of them coming back from there.

All they could manage to score was 103 runs. They lost the game by 67 runs as the Knights jumped up to the top of the points table. Roshon Primus with 36 runs was the highest run scorer in the innings while Ali Khan picked 3 wickets. Twitterati was overjoyed to see the Trinbago Knight Riders do so well. The team has quite a few fans from India, due to the Shah Rukh Khan factor.
