The Queen’s Park Oval witnessed a nail biting game. In what was a low scoring game won by the Trinbago Knight Riders, the St. Lucia Stars made it sure that it wasn’t a walk in the park for them. With this win, Trinbago stormed to the top of the points table with 2 wins out of 2 games so far.

Earlier in the day, it was Captain Brendon McCullum who won the toss as Tribago Knight Riders elected to bowl first. The St Lucia Stars is led by two-time WT20 winning captain Darren Sammy as both teams boast of a good number of international stars in their teams.

St Lucia had their first dismissal in the third over as Johnson Charles failed to get going. Kamran Akmal looked good for a while but he too failed to make a difference. While Fletcher batted well from one end, wickets kept tumbling at the other end.

From 75/2, the innings slid to 96/7 as St Lucia lost their way in the middle. Their middle order collapsed like a pack of cards. Some cameo by skipper Darren Sammy, in the end, took them to a modest 118/9 in their quota of 20 overs.

Kevon Cooper was the pick amongst the bowlers with 3 wickets in his kitty. Dwayne Bravo also picked up a couple of wickets. The likes of Khary Pierre, Shadab Khan and Sunil Narine also managed to take a wicket each.

119 was never going to be enough but the St Lucian team surely made a match out of it. Sunil Narine was dismissed early in the second over. Howe, er the turnaround came when Shillingford sent back skipper Brendon McCullum and later the dangerous Colin Munro in the same over.

The wickets didn’t stop coming as Denesh Ramdin and the Bravo brothers were also dismissed cheaply. The Knight Riders were left reeling at 75/6 with more than half the side back to the dugout. This is when Shadab Khan and Javon Searles batted their hearts out and stitched a match winning partnership of 45 runs to seal the game for Trinbago Knight Riders.

Shane Shillingford bowled stupendously for his 4/22 which also included a maiden over. Kyle Mayers and Mitchell McClenaghan got a wicket each as the St Lucia Stars didn’t allow Trinbago Knight Riders to breathe easy in spite of having fewer runs on the board.
