All eyes were on Chris Gayle as Windies took on India for the 3rd ODI. The man who has represented his team in over 300 ODIs was playing his last. Unlike the first two games, he didn’t disappoint this time. In the company of an in-form Evin Lewis, he unleashed and went berserk. However, it was Virat Kohli who stole all the limelight with yet another century and helped India clinch the series.

In the 11th over, Yuzvendra Chahal managed to find the edge of Lewis. He dismissed him for 43 runs which came off 29 balls. Then, Gayle was also dismissed in the following over when Virat Kohli took a good diving catch off the bowling of Khaleel Ahmed. The veteran scored 72 runs off 42 balls before he got out. While it was advantage Windies at this stage, they couldn’t really capitalise. The rain breaks meant that the match was reduced to 35 overs per side.

In the last 13 overs of the match, the home team couldn’t really get going. Their batsmen got out to some poor shots and they put up a slightly below par total of 240/7 in 50 overs. Khaleel Ahmed picked up three wickets while Mohammed Shami accounted for two.

Virat Kohli registers his 43rd ODI ton

The chase seemed to be a piece of cake for India even though they lost Rohit Sharma in the form of a run-out for just 10 runs. His partner, Shikhar Dhawan mustered 36 runs at run-a-ball. Rishabh Pant continued to bat at number four ahead of Shreyas Iyer. But, he disappointed yet again and the way he got out was frustrating. He wanted to smash the first ball that he faced out of the park. However, he was nowhere close to doing so and ended up edging it.

Virat Kohli, though, was positive at one end and found the perfect partner in Shreyas Iyer at the other end. Iyer got out after he scored 65 runs from only 41 balls but Kohli ensured that he stayed in the middle till the end. He remained unbeaten on 114 runs off 99 balls while Kedar Jadhav scored a breezy 12-ball 19 to finish things off.

Twitterati was elated as India was able to chase down the target of 255 (DLS) with ease. As usual, they fell short of words to describe Virat Kohli but lashed out at Rishabh Pant. They also believe that Shreyas Iyer could be the man for the future and bid adieu to the legendary Chris Gayle.
