Mahendra Singh Dhoni has often been the face of criticism for the poor performance from the Rising Pune Supergiant. The former captain’s struggle with the bat led to a lot of criticisms from the former players and also from the “experts” on the micro-blogging platform. Recently, the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had his criticisms about Dhoni.
“I am not too sure if Dhoni is a good T20 player. He is a champion ODI player but when it comes to T20 cricket, in 10 years, he has got one fifty and that’s not the best record,” said Ganguly.
Post that comments from the President of Cricket Association of Bengal, #DhoniDropped started trending on Twitter, with few users linking it to Karma.
Dhoni has overcome all the criticisms to silent the opposition by scoring a quick-fire 28 runs from 25 deliveries which included a monstrous six that got settled on the roof on a Sunday night. The knock helps the player to get rid of some criticisms shortly.
However, Dhoni’s form with the gloves is far better than some of the other wicketkeepers in the league. He has proved his skills behind the stumps in the opening four games for the Supergiant. The ongoing match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium was no less, with Dhoni’s glove-work getting the massive appreciation from the critics.
Dhoni got rid of the dangerous AB de Villiers with a blink-and-miss stumping in Imran Tahir’s over. The stumping was just reminiscent of what the wicket-keeper Dhoni can do.
Twitter went berserk after the sharp-nifty work of the keeper with one user posting “If stumping is a religion then Dhoni is God”, sharply favouring the keeper.
Another user argued that it was not Tahir’s good piece of bowling that dismissed the South African swashbuckling batsman with a tweet saying ” ABD was not RPS bowler’s cup of tea.. so Dhoni did it. ?”
Here are some of the other tweets that matched the above two:
