There has been a constant debate on who is better. Whether it is Steve Smith or Virat Kohli. Both of them have been absolutely magnificent for their respective teams. There has been a constant debate among the fans and former cricketers and experts have often been asked this question.
However, after Smith was banned for a year, Kohli went on to establish himself as one of the greats as he constantly carried the Indian batting line-up, especially in Test cricket overseas. He went on to get hundreds in South Africa, England and Australia in tough conditions and was the standout in the team.
He was always brilliant in white-ball cricket and he became a lot more consistent. Kohli’s numbers in ODI cricket were mind-boggling at one point and he averages nearly 60 at the moment. However, fans have questioned his ability to stand up in big knockout games.
Meanwhile, Smith returned to international cricket after a one-year hiatus during the World Cup. He consistently got runs throughout the tournament. However, it was his return in Test cricket was awaited. He was churning out hundreds for fun before he was banned. The New South Wales lad averaged in excess of 60 in the longest format. And he continued in the same vein in his comeback Test.
He scored a fabulous 144 which helped Australia get out of jail as Smith’s knock took then from 122/8 to 284. When he walked out to bat in the second innings, Australia were once again under pressure. But Smith came to Australia’s rescue once again as he scored a counter-attacking century. The former Australian skipper drove Australia into a position of strength as he notched up his 25th Test ton. England just doesn’t know how to get past Smith. He was the standout batsman in the 2017-18 Ashes in Australia and is at it again this time around.
Thus, the debate on the best batsman resurfaced. Former England cricket Rob Key reacted and said that Smith is better than Kohli.
Here is the Tweet:

Twitter was on the same page like the former England batsman. Most of the reactions on Key’s tweet confirmed that Smith was a better Test batsman than Kohli. They believed the Indian skipper is second best to Smith in the longest format.

Interesting though how so many people, if asked, would prob give Kohli the nod. Is this just down to aesthetics? I can’t think of any other person who dominates their game like Smith who looks quite so ugly doing it. I’d pick him over Kohli every day though and twice on Sunday.

He certainly is great in Test. But Kohli had also played mind boggling innings in England only last summer, may be Smith would just edge past him by a whisker.
