Umar Akmal was deemed to be one of the brightest talents Pakistan have ever produced in the batting department. He has played some jaw-dropping knocks for his team but hasn’t been able to cement his position in the lineup owing to lacklustre performances and disciplinary issues as well. He last donned the national colours back in January 2017 against Australia in Adelaide.

The 28-year-old has played 16 Tests, 116 ODIs and 82 T20Is in which he has notched 1003, 3044 and 1690 runs respectively. He last played competitive cricket for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this year’s Pakistan Cup, hosted by Faisalabad. Nevertheless, his career is well and truly in the doldrums and a bright future isn’t in the offing for the Lahore-born cricketer.

He played for the Lahore Qalandars in this year’s Pakistan Super League and could manage only 57 runs in five matches at a shambolic average of 11.40. He was also a recipient of backlash from Brendon McCullum, the skipper of the franchise. He also has been loggerheads with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the last couple of years.

Akmal contemplating new career?

He was left out of the squad when the cricket team toured England for a Test series back in July 2016. Last year, he had a severe altercation with Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s head coach. Akmal lashed out at Arthur in a press conference and afterward regretted about his harsh words. Thereafter, Arthur also slammed Akmal left, right and centre for his insensitive remarks.

The cricket board also issued a show cause to the wicketkeeper-batsman. In the meantime, the cricketer is trying to keep himself upbeat and not allow the hassles to mar his mental sanctity. Recently, a video where Umar Akmal was seen performing kick-boxing with full intensity went viral on the social media.

Meanwhile, Twitter burst into laughter after the video came out and they severely trolled the discarded Pakistani cricketer.
