Twitter sympathises with Karun Nair after being dropped from the Test squad
He didn't play even a game in England despite being part of the Test squad.
The selection panel led by MSK Prasad announced the 15-man squad on Saturday for the upcoming two-match Test series against Windies. The team had quite a few changes expectedly after a series loss against England earlier this month. Mayank Agarwal and Mohammed Siraj earned maiden Test call-ups ad the duo thoroughly deserved it as well. However, one has to feel sad for Karun Nair who was dropped for warming the bench throughout the tour.
Nair is one of the only two Indian batsmen in Tests to have scored a triple century. But he has been faded away dramatically after that knock. The youngster played a couple of Test matches against Australia at home but hasn’t got enough opportunities despite being in the squad. Hanuma Vihari was handed over a debut ahead of him in the fifth Test at The Oval who was picked in the squad after the third Test.
No communication from the management
Karun Nair was expectedly disappointed over his exclusion. But the worse thing about it is neither the team management nor the selectors have spoken to him about the same. The youngster opined that he will have to keep doing well in domestic cricket to get picked again now. “No, we haven’t had any conversations. Nothing at all. It is difficult, but I haven’t gone forth and asked anything, but yeah, we haven’t had any conversation,” Nair said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw is set to make his international debut in the first Test against Windies which will commence on October 4 in Rajkot. Though it will be interesting to see if Agarwal also gets a go given that Team India is playing in helpful conditions at home.
While the former cricketers also felt bad for Nair, Twitterati also sympathised for him. They were of the opinion that he should’ve played a few games before being dropped.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Karun Nair sits out 6 Tests
Misses out on India A
Overlooked for Vihari (who is picked for India A scores)
Nair is dropped for WI Tests and has no fc cricket to win his spot back till Nov
So he misses playing v Eng, WI and Aus (?) with no chance to prove himself

To borrow from Alice in Wonderland, Karun Nair’s case gets ‘’curiouser and curiouser’’…

There are two people I feel terrible for currently. Karun Nair, for being axed without being given a fair opportunity, and Shardul Thakur, who knows whatever he does, he will only warm the bench. Why pick him then?

I haven't got the kind of opportunities I should have got after that Tripple Hundred : Karun Nair
Yaar aise logo ko selector kaun banata hai jisne khud ne apni puri life me kuchh naa ukhada ho…😇😉😡#SackMSKPrasad #KarunNair pic.twitter.com/kNTEMRWlDU

I kinda feel bad for Karun Nair but what happened with him is hilarious. 😂😂

Karun Nair a triple Centurion left out of Test Squad ☹️
They should have retained him instead of picking 2 new openers. Pujara can open with Rahul if needed anyway. #INDvWI— 🕉 𝔻𝕖𝕖𝕡𝕒𝕜 (@KodelaDeepak) September 30, 2018
Sad to see Karun Nair go through this. No player should be left in a limbo, it is things like these which demoralizes players.

To have someone come from India and take your place and have nothing communicated to you about it,can’t imagine how lonely that dressing room must have felt for Karun Nair. Shoddy treatment and playing around of career and mind of a player with a lot of ability.

I don't understand the logic behind dropping Karun Nair and keeping Shardul Thakur in. Both of them are there in the squad for England series and not played in single test match. One dropped and one kept his place. Wahhh selectors🤐🤐🙏🙏🙏 #INDvWI

Mr. Rahul Dravid,Happy for Mayank but can you please help to understand why Karun Nair is being ignored continuously? Though u r coach but might be playing some role in selection. #KarunNair deserves one more chance. Pls remove political environment in sports. Thanks.

Jo @imVkohli ko acha lagega voi khelega… Really feel for Karun Nair, Murli Vijay and to some extent Rohit Sharma in sub-continent. #INDvWI
What's in the mind of selectors?— Mahush Jain (@Mahush96) September 30, 2018
It sucks to be Karun Nair right now. Can't help but wonder what he must have done to piss off Kholi-shastri so much.

Maybe selectors don't want Karun Nair to play more Tests than any of the selectors. MSK Prasad has played the most, 6 Tests, and Nair is already there.
