Azhar Ali edges a decent length delivery from Peter Siddle past the gully fielder and the ball races through the outfield only to stop a couple of yards before the boundary. Meanwhile, the batsmen presume that it is a four and start having a chat in the middle of the pitch. They are unaware of the fact that the ball is still in the play.

Mitchell Starc runs behind the ball and fires in a throw to Tim Paine and the Aussie skipper disturbs the furniture in delight. The visitors celebrate enthusiastically which leaves both Azhar and Asad Shafiq confused. The umpires go refer the decision to the third umpire where the confusion evidently gets cleared and Azhar Ali is deemed run-out in the most bizarre fashion in cricket.

He was playing so well and had a century for the taking. But his naive approach and less game awareness have led to his stay at the crease cut-short after scoring 64 runs.

Australia grab the opportunity

Australians are known not to give up in any case when they are on the field. The same approach helped them come out of the hole in Dubai where their batsmen played 140 overs to earn a hard-fought draw and keep the series alive. The Abu Dhabi Test is also in a similar situation where they are out of the game almost having conceded a hefty first innings lead.

But they are still fighting hard and bowling well not giving up. This is what has earned them Azhar Ali’s wicket as they were aware that the ball hadn’t reached the boundary.

Meanwhile, Azhar is being trolled and lashed out on social media as the video of his dismissal has gone viral. Even the coach Mickey Arthur was unhappy with it as he expressed his disappointment on camera and he might have a word or two with the cricketer soon.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the hilarious dismissal:
