Twitter trolls Dinesh Karthik for being overanxious behind the wickets

Dinesh Karthik was picked in the playing XI for the series opener against England by the visitors. He has certainly earned his place back in the national side across all the formats and though this is not his official comeback game having played against Afghanistan, Karthik was excited to be back in the whites. England opted to bat first after winning the toss and the wicketkeeper has got a job on his hands on the very first day of the series.

However, Karthik was more than vocal during the first session behind the stumps. Every time the bowling attack was threatening to pick a wicket, he used to get excited. Wicketkeeper’s job normally is to encourage the bowlers and the slip cordon during the Tests as there are phases when the team doesn’t get a breakthrough and the shoulders start to drop.

Dinesh Karthik, in an attempt to keep his teammates upbeat, has been quite vocal in Birmingham. During the pre-lunch session, he was constantly in the ears of the batsman especially when Ravi Ashwin was bowling. The off-spinner was constantly bowling tight lines and Karthik’s reaction after every delivery was epic.

In between, he also spoke in his native language Tamil to let Ashwin know that he was bowling well. There was complete excitement in his actions and it was very much visible that he was enjoying his time with the Indian team. However, at times, many felt that he was overdoing it and in the process, was targeted by Twitterati. He was trolled hilariously by the tweeples for his actions while wicketkeeping.

As far as his performance is concerned, Karthik has done decently so far but it will be fair to say that he hasn’t been tested. There were few down the leg side takes which he gathered well and given that the pitch is assisting the batsmen, a long day could be in store for the visitors.
