The ongoing second Test match between India and South Africa has reached a point where even a single mistake would cost either of the teams. The fourth day’s play is currently in progress with the increasing lead of the hosts constantly worrying the visitors. They are so vocal on the field encouraging their bowlers but have failed to breakthrough in the post-lunch session. However, Twitter has trolled Virat Kohli as he took a disastrous review after being desperate to take the wicket.
South Africa began the day with the lead of 128 runs as the duo of AB de Villiers and Dean Elgar continued the proceedings. They stretched the lead easily by adding 141 runs for the third wicket. But India struck back quickly with three back to back wickets. It was Mohammed Shami who scalped both the set batsmen and also got better of Quinton de Kock.
The incident
Though Faf du Plessis and Vernon Philander played out the tricky period before lunch and are looking comfortable in the middle in the second session. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli took the worst review ever in his captaincy stint ever as it was visible that he was desperate for a wicket. The incident happened during the 62nd over of the innings when Jasprit Bumrah bowled a searing yorker to du Plessis first up. He somehow kept the ball out as the Indians appealed more in hope.
But Virat looked animated and went for the review without consulting anyone. As it turned out, the ball didn’t even touch the pad and it had ricocheted only off the bat. Even Kohli was smiling after it was shown on the big screen and he wasted a review. Even Sunil Gavaskar was fumed after watching the review and bashed the skipper’s decision to take the review. Twitter was aware of the incident and trolled Kohli hilariously. While few demanded the return of MS Dhoni back in the side to take successful reviews, some believed the captain didn’t take into the opinion of others.
Here’s how Twitter trolled Virat:
Can't make fun of Mushfiqur Rahman's review anymore after that DRS call from Virat. #SAvInd

Lmfao he really can’t use DRS??? RT @TinyBubblez_: Virat reviewing everything ?
— Tumi (@tumza_45) January 16, 2018
Virat Kohli just wanted to check the thickness of the bat, with that review !! Well, it’s been 10 years since DRS’ inception; and I guess this review by Kohli for a LBW of a full blooded straight forward defence, ought to be the worst ever #SAvIND

Virat, it is NOT Desperate Review System.

What Virat is doing? A meaningless decision to go for review. Sheer waste of a valuable review. The ball touched the middle of the blade. A spectator watching the sport on TV can see but not Virat and his bowler in the field.

Virat Kohli has just asked for review thinking this ball might have hit the pad, LBW ? #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/28camNSIbA

I wouldn’t review any decision by Michael Gough if I were Virat of Faf, unless if I’m 100% sure that he was wrong, which is highly improbable lol

That's got to be one of our most bizarre review in Virat Kohli's stint as indian captain! #SAvIND
