Twitter unhappy with MS Dhoni's dismal show with the bat
While many felt it was time that Dhoni was dropped from the 50 over format as well, others wanted him to call it a day.

MS Dhoni has been going through a poor phase at the moment. The wicketkeeper-batsman has had a dry run for a long time. Renowned for finishing games at the lower order on a consistent basis, the 37-year-old has failed to the honour these duties for a long time now. That has cast a lot of aspersions on his abilities.
The selectors took a brave decision by leaving Dhoni out of the T20 international squad against the Windies and Australia. Dinesh Karthik who was stupendous in the Nidahas Trophy final was included alongside young sensation Rishabh Pant. MSK Prasad mentioned that the team was looking forward to trying the second choice wicketkeeper.
Fans lash out at Dhoni
MS Dhoni had a good chance to give a statement to the selectors in the third ODI against Windies. He began well with a spectacular diving catch followed by a quickfire stumping. However, there has never been a question over his keeping abilities. It was the batting that mattered the most, both for India and himself. As he walked into the crease, India were 172/4 with the last recognised pair on the field.
With 112 runs more required, it was important for Dhoni to stay till the end. However, he failed to prolong his stay at the crease. For a second consecutive time, Dhoni succumbed to a soft dismissal as he walked back to the pavilion. He was nipped out by opposition captain Jason Holder.
Twitter was divided in their opinions over the finisher. While many felt it was time that Dhoni was dropped from the 50-overs format as well, others wanted him to call it a day. There were a significant number of fans who also felt that he would come back stronger. He hasn’t scored a single fifty in his last 13 games.
Here we have some of the Twitter reactions
It’s enough! Dhoni should retire. He is the elephant in the room. #MSDhoni #INDvsWI #ViratKohli

Dhoni should retire honourably right now.
There is no point in dragging further.
He achieved everything in his career.
All ICC trophies great career.
His face told the story today he was himself disappointed.
Retire and end this misery. #INDvWI

Best players are those who know when to go, assuming you know it by now. It's painful to watch you struggle.

Dhoni has 2 matches to retire as a king. After that it’s gonna go downhill quickly and there will be no coming back for him. He’ll have to live with it forever.

Dhoni is probably going through the worst phase of his career and doesn't deserve to be in the team if this continues for the next 2 games. But people having the audacity to ask him to retire? Wow. #INDvWI

This isn’t MS. Not him at all. No more saying bring him at 4, MS would have dug deep. Such a bad situation with WC ahead. To go or not go. Is it time MS? 💔 @msdhoni

The first catch and the Hetmyer stumping is proof why @msdhoni is still very much needed in the world cup side. Just play domestic cricket and bat as much as possible. His fitness and glove work still top draw.

Reconsider their decision and remove him even from ODI squad is what I meant.

MS Dhoni dropped the legends such as Ganguly & Dravid for the ODI tournament in Australia in 2008. Took a bold but correct step & reaped rich dividends by winning World Cup 2011. Will Kohli show the similar conviction as a captain to take a bold decision? #INDvsWI

This match was #Dhoni 's chance to prove. He lost it. He should have gracefully resigned from formats earlier.
He did the same to Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir. Time to apply the same on himself. Fans, go hide yourself. #IndvsWI

The only time Dhoni shows great footwork is when he walks back to the pavilion. Legend. #INDvWI

MS Dhoni of 2008-09 would have dropped MS Dhoni of 2018 from his side. #justsaying

Everyone calling for Dhoni’s head but I reckon he should still play WC 2019. Still the best keeper against your 2 wrist spinners, still incredibly fit, still the only guy who knows how to use DRS, just that you can no longer rely on him to finish any chase, those days are gone.
— Gappistan Radio (@GappistanRadio) October 27, 2018
For the sake of respect, for everything he has done for Indian team is the only reason I want Dhoni to play WC19 lest his batting might be the least reason to make him play or no reason at all. 😐
