The three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is the only franchise in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) to have qualified for playoffs in all the 10 seasons it has featured in. However, it looks like the team will witness an end to its dream run in the league as the Super Kings are having a horrible campaign in the 13th edition of the T20 Championship in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
As the tournament is heading towards its business end, the Yellow Army is sitting on the edge of elimination with their playoff chances hanging by a thread. Though mathematically, the franchise still has a chance of making it to the top 4, it is practically impossible as they have failed to find the winning rhythm and are languishing at the bottom of the points tally with just 3 wins thus far in ten fixtures.
It is the batting line-up of CSK, that is under the scanner since the beginning of the tournament for their below-par performance and clear lack of intent for scoring runs at a good pace. Though the bowling department has been decent, the team have always been let down by their batsmen.
Fans dejected with CSK’s poor run in IPL 2020
As the Daddy’s Army succumbed to their seventh defeat of the season against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, there was an outrage of Twitter as fans seemed terribly upset with the management and captain MS Dhoni with the poor selection of playing XI and yet another painful collapse of team’s batting line-up.
Batting first against Royals, Chennai managed to post only 125 runs as they could score just 65 runs in the last ten overs with veterans like MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja on the crease. RR easily chased down the target with 15 balls to spare with the help of an unbeaten 70 off 48 balls from Jos Buttler.
The loss raised many questions over the management and skipper. The most common of the lot was the inclusion of Kedar Jadhav in the team, who has been a flop in this season, instead of the youngster Narayan Jagadeesan who had collected 33 runs in the only game he played for CSK in IPL 2020.
Many of the dejected fans went a step ahead as they demanded the captain Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming to resign from their respective roles and let someone better lead the team. The duo of Fleming and Dhoni had done wonders for the team as under their leadership CSK has won the T20 title in IPL 2018 along with being the runners-up in the last edition.
Here’s how Twitter reacted
On seeing Kedhar jadhav entry again I personally hate Dhoni from this moment whom I was admiring after Kapil Dev,my all time favorite . Step down Dhoni. Give Jagadeesan chance#IndianPremierLeague

What motivation will a youngster in the team get when his captain has no confidence in him. For a captain who has aced the post match presentations, this is a very irresponsible statement from him.
Also an indication, that Dhoni needs to step down as CSK captain post this season. https://t.co/B1cTHsZRA6— Vineet Gharge (@cricxpert45) October 20, 2020
MSD gave everything to the team and emotionally attached. Hence, I don't want to see him an bad exit. He should better quit from CSK and relax with his family. Meanwhile CSK was in the hands of worst management who does business not cricket. A change in management needed badly.

Being a Dhoni fan, watching him play like this really hurts. Until this season, I've been supporting him through his tough times but now I think, he has to step aside for the benefit of the team.
Can't believe CSK won't make the playoffs this time 🙁 #WhistlePodu

Dhoni should step down as captain and leave #ChennaiSuperKings

the only thing that hurts more than the
loss rn is that Dhoni might seriously step down, maybe not from captaincy but from the game altogether and this might be the end of him for CSK and in IPL too, we might not see him play again, so enjoy whatever you can. 🙂— Simran / Bhavya (@BhavyaDhoni) October 19, 2020
Prediction: Dhoni will retire/step down after this match

Both Fleming n MSD shd take this pathetic performance and gracefully move away and give the youngsters an opportunity to take the yellow army forward. Retain Jaddu, sam curran only. REST ALL can be given a good farewell…Good luck CSK for 2021..A fresh beginning with new hopes..

Time for Dhoni to step down from his captaincy..he is single handedly taking @ChennaiIPL on the same path as India’s 2019 WC 😵 #ThePerfectFinisher 🙏🏼
