Social media is a beautiful medium and its moments like this one which really pleases the fans. Anybody who started watching cricket in 90’s wouldn’t forget the maverick figures of Shahid Afridi and Sanath Jayasuriya. While Jayasuriya played his last international game in 2011, Afridi last played for Pakistan almost a year ago. After his onslaught of 54 runs from 28 balls, last night against Karachi Kings, “Boom Boom” Afridi had announced that he thought his days in Pakistani colours are over. Jayasuriya took it to Twitter to appreciate Afridi on his illustrious career by tweeting, “I like to wish @SAfridiOfficial all the best for future. Thank you for the memories. You helped change the game”.

In the latter half of the 90’s, six hitting was taken to another level by these two. They competed against each other to break all hard-hitting records. Ironically, Afridi snatched the record for fastest ODI hundred from Jayasuriya, which he scored in 37-balls. The record was intact for years, which was later broken by Corey Anderson and is currently held by AB de Villiers who got there in 31 balls.

It didn’t end there, Jayasuriya held the record for fastest 50 and Afridi was second in the list for quite a while. The Matara mauler powered 352 sixes across all formats while Afridi had 476 sixes against his name. Both the players were truly instrumental in revolutionizing white-ball cricket. It was cricket’s loss that T20 cricket hadn’t quite taken off when these legends were at the peak of their prowess.
