The Global T20 Canada started off on a humungous scale. The first and the inaugural game of the league itself grabbed the attention of all the cricket fans from around the world. It was quite a high-scoring one and as many as 31 sixes were smashed in this game. Further, over 450 runs were scored by both the teams in this game.
Coming to the league, six teams compete against each other in the round-robin format. Further, this will be followed by the playoffs and the winner will be decided in the final on 16 July 2018 according to Indian Standard Time (IST). All the games will be played at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground in King City.
Big Totals, Majestic Knocks, Steve Smith’s come back – A lot to cheer for Twitterati
Darren Sammy’s Toronto Nationals faced off Chris Gayle’s Vancouver Knights in the opening encounter. After being put into bat first, the Knights posted a huge total of 227 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs. Evin Lewis, with a blistering knock of 96 that came off just 55 balls was the star in the first innings. Also, Andre Russell scored 54 off just 20 balls towards the end helping the team put up this big total.
Despite posting such a huge total, the Vancouver Knights failed to defend it. Heroics from former Aussie skipper Steve Smith and New Zealand all-rounder Anton Devcich helped the Toronto Nationals successfully chase the target down with 4 balls to spare. Smith looked decent in his come back game with an impressive 61 off 41 deliveries. Devcich remained in the middle till the end as he scored 92 off just 44 balls in the chase and the Nationals bagged a 6-wicket win.
Twitterati had several reasons to cheer for at the end of the game. They were treated with some great entertainment. There were some great knocks from players of both the teams. Big sixes were smashed, a huge target was chased down and most of all, Smith impressed everyone in this game. Here is how Twitterati reacted to the game.
