Talk about young talent in the IPL – Sanju Samson has just been brilliant against the Rising Pune Supergiant. The IPL has had a reputation of bringing out the best of local talent and propelling them to the international arena, and 22 year old Samson has definitely drawn the selectors’ attention. A maiden century for the youngster in the IPL will surely mean the world to him.

Samson came in at no.3, after opener Aditya Tare was dismissed without troubling the scorers. The youngster, who has shown glimpses of brilliance during his stint with the Rajasthan Royals, was due for a big innings. Samson started off slow as he watched the ball closely and rotated the strike. Once Sam Billings was dismissed, he found Rishabh Pant at the other end who was once again fearless in his approach.

Samson then had the license to go for the big shots. He dealt with Ben Stokes’ pace and Dinda’s bounce. In the 18th over, Dinda was smashed for 19 runs by Samson. He took on the experienced Imran Tahir and dispatched him into the second tier. From a considerably slow start to his innings, Samson raced to 96 off 61 balls. A 100 seemed only a fair reward for his dazzling stay at the crease.

RPS skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to throw the ball to Adam Zampa for the 19th over. In Zampa’s very first ball, Samson cleared his front foot and lofted it straight over the bowler for a maximum. Sanju Samson had brought up his century in a Sehwag-esque fashion. Zampa, however, removed the dangerous Samson in the very next ball as a straighter one crashed into middle stump.

A little Indian boy had enthralled the Pune crowd with his clean hitting and his composure at the crease. Samson’s innings spoke volumes about the young man’s talent. Sanju Samson departed only to bring in more worries for the Pune bowlers, in the form of Chris Morris.

The responsibility of bowling the final over was given to Ben Stokes, who was forced to relive his Eden Gardens nightmare. Only this time, it was Chris Morris who was the perpetrator as he walloped him for 23 runs. Yorkers, slower deliveries, back of a length, Morris had an answer for them all.

The Delhi Daredevils ended their innings with 205 on the board. Following a show of pure masterclass by Sanju Samson and some fierce hitting by Chris Morris, DD will surely fancy their chances of bagging two valuable points tonight.
