The Indian women’s team, dubbed as the dark horses of the WWC 2017 have proved their worth yet again. The eves registered a comfortable 36-run win to eclipse past the team from down under to secure the finals birth against hosts England. 28-year-old Harmanpreet Kaur was the star in India’s victory with an impeccable knock of 171* of just 115 balls.

However, commentating from the box, Sanjay Manjrekar had to face severe criticism from the Indian Twitterati following his tweet. Manjrekar was trolled after he objected against the Indian captain. Batting first, India scored a massive 281/4 in 42 overs, courtesy Harmanpreet’s brilliant knock. Australia was off to a poor start, losing three wickets for 21 runs in the first powerplay when Manjrekar questioned Mithali’s ‘defensive’ tactics.

He took to Twitter as he posted, “Mithali Raj’s captaincy will decide the fate of this match. Too defensive currently. Fielders in the circle also trying to save boundaries.”

The reactions which followed were nothing short of hilarious.

The 52-year-old former Indian cricketer suffered another faux pas in the commentary box. Manjrekar, while commentating absolutely forgot that the game was shortened from 50 overs to 42 overs. Twice – first during the 37th over of Australia’s innings, he said there were 13 overs left. And he said that there were 12 overs remaining after the 38th over. It was not until someone in the comm box corrected him that Manjrekar rectify his error, but it was too late.

Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma provided good support to Harmanpreet as she cruised to her 3rd ODI hundred. The bowling department also put up a clinical performance to restrict the Aussies. Deepti clinched three wickets while Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey finished with two wickets each.
