Australia locked horns with England in the first T20 International of three-match series on September 4 at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. The Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to field first. The hosts had a rocky start as the visitors got their first breakthrough in the form of opening batsman Jonny Bairstow in the end of the third over.

However, the English team managed to pose a target of 163 runs on the board at loss of seven wickets owing to a splendid knock of 66 runs off 43 runs by Dawid Malan. The wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler also made a notable contribution by adding 44 runs to the team’s total. Kane Richardson, Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Agar emerged as economical bowlers for Australia as they took two wickets each while Pat Cummins also took the wicket of Bairstow.

The second-half of the match commenced on a great note for the Aussies as the opening batsmen Dawid Warner and Finch collected 91 runs in the first 10 overs and put their side in the driver’s seat. However, the hosts made a solid comeback in the game as Australia lost its three main wickets namely Steven Smith, Dawid Warner and Glenn Maxwell in a span of just two overs.

In the end, the visitors needed 15 runs off the last six balls but they eventually lost the match by 2 runs. For the hosts, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid got two wickets, while Mark Wood got one to his name. Malan was given the Man of the Match award for his brilliant performance with the bat.

Adam Zampa trolled on Twitter

Over the years, the leg-spinner Adam Zampa has established himself as a good wicket-taking bowler for the Australian side. However, his performance in the first T20I against England was disappointing as the 28-year-old not only went wicket less but also gave 47 runs in four overs at an economy of 11.8.

After the poor performance by Zampa, he and IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore is being fiercely trolled on social networking sites. Notably, the leg-spinner has joined RCB ahead of the 2020 edition of the cash-rich league as a replacement of his country-mate Kane Richardson who pulled out off the tournament to be with his wife during the birth of his first child.

The twitterati have been linking the bad performance of Adam as the side-effect of joining the Banglore side in IPL. The Virat Kohli-led team is yet to win it’s maiden T20 title and the bowling department has always proved to be a Achilles heel for the team for the past few seasons.
