The dismal run of team England in the Ashes continues to be a worrying concern for the team management and the fans. They are well under the threat of a whitewash defeat in the all-important Ashes. Being 0-2 down and on the verge of losing the third Test as well, certainly does not help the cause of the team. Amidst this backdrop former English batsman Kevin Pietersen trolled the England captain Joe Root.

Kevin Pietersen took to micro blogging site Twitter to troll Root for the constant failure of the team. He sarcastically mocked Root as ‘captain fantastic’. It was a direct dig at the newly appointed England captain. KP also added a picture along with his tweet. In the picture, Joe Root is seen with a toy gun in his hand.

Here is what Kevin Pietersen tweeted:

The Twitterati certainly did not like what the out-of-favor English batsman tweeted. They came back harsh at KP asking him not to mock Joe Root. Some of the users rightly cited that it is only unfair to be targeting the captain when the entire team is not performing as a unit. The fans stood by the corner of Root very loyally and defended him.

Commenting on the current run of form of the English skipper, Root is yet to leave an imprint on the series. His failure to get the runs in the series is somewhere being reflected in the way the shoulders are down for the visitors. When seen in contrast, the Australian counterpart, Steve Smith, has already hammered two tons in the Ashes 2017-18. This includes his career best effort of 239 in the Perth Test.

Needless to concede why Joe Root is being targeted by many as well. Kevin Pietersen is just a prominent name doing so. However, the way he trolled Root is something that irked the English fans.

Here is how the fans reacted to KP’s tweet:
