South Africa women’s team captain Dane van Niekerk tied the knot with the fast bowling all-rounder Marizanne Kapp on Saturday. These two women cricketers have known each other for quite some time now. The duo made their international debut in a gap of two days all the way back in 2009 during the Women’s World Cup.

While Van Niekerk debuted on March 8 against West Indies, Kapp followed it by debuting on March 10 against Australia. This duo became the second of the current international teammates to get hitched. Earlier, New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu got married last year.

Kapp took to Instagram to announce the news of the tie. Furthermore, it is also learnt the most of the South African women cricketers attended the marriage. Van Niekerk is the leading wicket-taker for South Africa in ODIs. She picked 125 wickets from 95 matches at an average of 18.86 and an economy rate of 3.51. Furthermore, she is also the fourth highest run-scorer in Women ODIs with 1,770 runs. She was also awarded the ‘2017-18 CSA Women’s-Cricketer-of-the-Year’ recently.

Kapp, on the other hand, picked 99 wickets at 24.84, with an economy rate of 3.66. She is the sixth highest run-getter in ODIs with 1,618 runs. Van Niekerk is currently ranked third and fourth in the ICC’s allrounders’ rankings in ODIs and T20Is respectively, while Kapp occupies the fourth slot on the ODI bowlers’ rankings.

These two members are a very important part of the Proteas side. They are quite dominant both with the bat as well as the ball across all the formats. This duo also featured in a Test match against India in 2014 that took place in Mysore. They played 82 ODIs and 56 T20Is together. These two share a great bond and have been together for quite some time now. They were both also the first two girls to join a boys’ cricket academy in South Africa.
