Team India players selected for the England tour (including WTC Final against New Zealand) are set to go into home quarantine for two weeks before leaving for UK. It has been understood that the BCCI has sought the home addresses for UK bound contingent and will be testing them at home only.

The Virat Kohli-led side is set to play the WTC Final against New Zealand from June 18 in Southampton while their five-match Test series against England will commence on August 4. Most of the players have also taken their first dose of COVISHIELD vaccine as directed by the BCCI even as the board is expecting to make the second dose available for them during the UK tour.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the RT-PCR tests of the players will be done at their doorsteps only. Not only players but their family members who will travel with them on tour will also be tested. The board has also decided to enforce two-week strict quarantine for the cricketers in Mumbai which will start around May 18 or 19.

More COVID tests during quarantine

The report further added that the players and their family members will have to undergo three RT-PCR tests before going into isolation. Also, COVID tests will be done regularly during their 14-day quarantine period too. With the quarantine to take place in Mumbai, the local members of contingent are expected to granted an exemption of a week but they will be strictly told to not move out of their houses during this period.

It has been learnt that the experience of IPL 2021 which had to be called off due to COVID cases inside the bubble has made the BCCI take strict steps to implement the health guidelines. The board isn’t willing to take any chances and reportedly, it has already instructed players about the tour ending for the one who tests positive for the virus.

Team India is expected to leave for UK on June 2 where they will be under another two weeks of possible isolation but will be allowed to train from the second week.
