The Indian women’s cricket team delivered some remarkable performances in the year 2017 – from qualifying for the World Cup after playing the qualifier tournament, to ending the global event as runners-up. Mithali Raj and co. made a lot of news last year and received several felicitations and honours for their brilliant journey to the finals of the World Cup.

International cricket after seven months

They had to wait for another seven months after the World Cup to resume international cricket, and when that happened, they nailed it once again. India toured South Africa in February 2018 to play five ODIs and three T20Is, and won both the series under Mithali and Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy.

However, the media came under the scanner once again, as the ODI matches were not telecasted live on the television, and the fans had only online updates to view. The next major assignment for the women in blue is an ODI series against Australia starting next week, in which Raj will continue as the captain.

Change in schedule

Following that series, the next big series will be the women’s T20 tri-series featuring Team India, Australia and England, which has been rescheduled on the calendar so that Star Sports can telecast all seven matches before their media rights contract with the BCCI gets terminated on March 31. Thus the series has been preponed and it will be played at the Brabourne Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI) from March 22 to 31. Initially, the series was supposed to be played in April.

A BCCI official said that Star India will bring live coverage on the TV for the three-match ODI series against Australia to be played in Baroda on March 12, 15 and 18 and also the T20 Tri-series. Given the form, the Indian eves are in, despite playing international cricket so intermittently, gives them an upper hand over Australia.
