Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has lashed out at the Pakistan media for highlighting the frailties of the Pakistani batsmen in the recent past. For some time now, Akmal has been on the receiving end of criticism from the Pakistan media after having failed to perform consistently with the bat. The right-hander at times finds it hard to stay out of the news due to his antics on and off the field. However, Akmal trained his gun on the media and asked it not to highlight every small matter.

“I would urge the Pakistani media to support Pakistani cricketers and help us in taking Pakistan cricket forward. The media needs to stop highlighting every little situation and making a big deal out of it,” he was quoted as saying bu pakpassion.net.

Akmal also added that it was wrong on the part of the media given the fact that the cricketers also have families. He also added that the news stories doing the rounds were a blow not just to the cricketers and their families, but also Pakistani cricket on a whole.

“We cricketers have families too and it’s not nice for them to see negative stories being brought up and highlighted in the media. Our families struggle to cope with such controversies which our media seem to thrive on. It not only hurts our families but these stories hurt us cricketers and ultimately Pakistan cricket. I need support from the media and if I get that then you will definitely see positive results,” he further added.

The Pakistan side has been in the media over the past few months for almost all the wrong reasons. First, it was the resignation of the coach Waqar Younis before Shahid Afridi also gave away uncertain clues about his retirement. Now, with Mickey Arthur at the helm, Pakistan will be hoping to turn over a new leaf in their cricketing history.
