Venkatesh Prasad shuts up a fan with a brilliant reply who tried to question his cricketing achievements

On Sunday, former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad shut up a fan with one of his Twitter replies. The fan had tried to mock the ex-cricketer but the latter had a perfect response to it. The incident kicked off when Prasad posted a tweet in reference to a new commercial where Rahul Dravid was seen. 

In the commercial launched by Indian start-up Cred, an app for paying credit card bills, Rahul Dravid was in a never-seen-before avatar. In the commercial, actor Jim Sarbh lists out ‘Dravid has anger issues’ as one of the improbable and ridiculous things to say.

In the next scene, the former Indian batsman, who is known for his calm and quiet nature, is seen shouting at people in the traffic of Bengaluru. He says screaming from his car that he is the gunda (a gang member) of Indiranagar, a part of Bengaluru. Prasad recalled his infamous clash of words with Pakistan batsman Aamir Sohail in the 1996 World Cup Quarter Final match.

He posted a tweet with an image of that incident and posted a caption, “Me to Aamir Sohail in Bangalore at 14.5- #IndiraNagarkaGunda hoon main.” To this, a fan replied mocking this to be the only achievement of the former cricketer. Prasad was quick to respond and remind the fan of his five-wicket haul against Pakistan in the next World Cup which had helped India win that match.

“Nahi Najeeb Bhai. Had reserved some achievements for later. In the very next World cup in Eng in 1999, took 5/27 at Manchester against Pakistan and they were unable to chase 228. God bless you,” Prasad wrote.

The incident which Venkatesh Prasad had referenced remains one of the most iconic moments in the India and Pakistan rivalry. During the Quarter Final of the 1996 World Cup which was being played in Bengaluru (then Bangalore), Pakistan was cruising in their run chase against India. In the 15th over, stand-in Pakistan skipper Aamir Sohail smashed Prasad for a four and said something to him pointing at the boundary with his bat. 

Prasad went back to the bowling crease and bowled a brilliant delivery next up. Sohail was clean bowled and a fired-up Prasad had a few words for him as well. Prasad was India’s best bowler in that match, ending with figures of 3 for 45. He also picked up 5 for 27 in the 1999 World Cup match against Pakistan.
