Chris Morris, the big South African all-rounder, showed exactly why Delhi Daredevils rely on him so much – with a tidy bowling performance last night. He got the big fish, Chris Gayle, last night early in the innings which didn’t allow RCB to get off to a flying start.

Morris, though, counted himself lucky to get the wicket of Gayle. It was an attempted slower one which dipped on Gayle and the big Jamaican skied a full toss for Sanju Samson to take a smart catch at mid-off. On another day, it might have resulted in a six, something which Morris admitted too.

“I just got lucky to get Chris Gayle’s wicket. It was a slower ball which dipped a little bit more. Very very lucky, just my day.On another day it could have gone out of the stadium,” Morris said while speaking to IPLT20.com

He bowled well overall and returned with an impressive 3/21 off his four overs. He came back to bowl two overs at the death and picked up 2 wickets off the last over to ensure that Delhi Daredevils weren’t chasing a steep total. Morris was pinpoint with the yorkers, which is considered a luxury in this format.

Morris did exceptionally well for his franchise last year too – both with ball and bat – and just wants to keep things simple for this season. “I am keeping things simple. But I try to land the yorker with the old ball and with the new ball I try to land it in good areas and do it consistently.”

Not many franchises in the IPL have fast bowlers as their captain and Delhi Daredevils is led by Zaheer Khan for the second consecutive season. Asked about his thought on Zaheer as a captain, Morris said “It’s a bit different having a fast bowling captain. he understands what his bowlers think. He is quite good with his planning and field placings. He back you up with the field changes as well.”

Despite Morris’ heroics with the ball, Daredevils stumbled towards the end of their chase to hand a 15-run win to RCB. Morris needs to contribute more with the bat, which he can as his T20 batting records show.

Daredevils play their second game of the IPL-10 on April 11 against Rising Pune Supergiant and will be keen to get on the points table.
