Veteran Indian cricketer could miss out on BCCI Central Contract

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the names of the players for the annual Central Contracts soon. These contracts are the contracts of the highest order which are rewarded to the regular faces of the national setup, or to the players who are in contention to make it to the Indian side in the coming season.

Amidst this backdrop, it will be interesting to see if the likes of Yuvraj Singh or Harbhajan Singh get the contracts this time. It is worth noting that Yuvraj Singh has not played for the Indian team in the last seven months. His previous appearance in the Indian colors in a major tournament was in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and had played in the limited overs fixtures in West Indies.

Yuvraj, who wishes to make it to the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup, would hope he gets to play the next ICC major. But, as the things stand at the moment, Yuvraj Singh has certainly lost the plot of making a comeback to the side again. The current Indian squad looks fit and totally full to the capacity.

Furthermore, the youngsters are stepping up big time to make it tougher for the veterans to stage a comeback. Hence, as a result of this, it is being speculated that Yuvraj Singh could be dropped from the centrally contracted list.

Not a very impressive domestic season for Yuvraj Singh

The recent numbers of the veteran southpaw are not very impressive either. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he did manage to score 208 runs in the 9 matches that he played, but his strike rate was just 96.29.

Also, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he amassed just 172 runs. Recently, the squads for the Deodhar Trophy were announced and Yuvraj was not included in either of the two sides. It will be worth watching how and when Yuvraj plans to stage his comeback to the national side.
