The bowlers had something to cheer about during the 2nd day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18 after big scores on the first day. Two players bagged 6-wicket hauls in the six games played during the day to set up wins for their teams. Hyderabad and Mumbai posted 300+ totals and registered comfortable victories similar to the first day. Tamil Nadu losing to Goa with Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin in their XI was the talking point during the day.

All the stats and numbers that matter from the 2nd day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18:

2 – Number of wickets for Ravichandran Ashwin in the game against Goa. In his last seven List A outings for Tamil Nadu, Ashwin bowled more than one over in six matches taking 13 wickets with at least two wickets in all those six games.


2Umesh Yadav bagged ducks in both the matches he played. He got out on the 2nd ball he faced against Jharkhand on Monday and bagged a golden duck in the 2nd game against Jammu and Kashmir. With the ball, Umesh returned with the figures of 2/69 and 2/30 respectively.


3 – Andhra defeated Madhya Pradesh in their last three meetings in any format. They defeated Madhya Pradesh in their first meeting in Vijay Hazare during last season and also in the Ranji Trophy this season.


4 – Only the 4th time Goa defeated Tamil Nadu in any game in Indian domestic circuit. They defeated Tamil Nadu in 2011/12 and 2014/15 Vijay Hazare Trophy matches and in the 2013/14 Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.


6 – Swapnil Asnodkar’s century against Tamil Nadu is his 6th in the List A format and his first in six domestic seasons. Five of those hundreds came while playing for Goa where no other player scored more than two hundreds in List A cricket for them. Asnodkar’s hundred in this game is his 3rd against Tamil Nadu in this format. No other player scored as many hundreds as Asnodkar against TN in List A cricket.


6/24 – P Girinath Reddy became the first Andhra player to take a 6-wicket haul in the List A format. He recorded figures of 8.2-0-24-6 against Madhya Pradesh in Chennai. Four players took 5-wicket hauls for Andhra in this format previously.


6/44 – Shahnawaz Hussain became the first player in List A cricket to take a 5-wicket haul for the Chhattisgarh team who made their debut in the last season. He took 6/44 in his 9.5 overs at Hyderabad’s Gymkhana to become the first player with a List A 6-wicket haul against Services as well.


333/7 – Hyderabad’s total of 333/7 against Jharkhand is their joint 2nd highest total in List A cricket. They scored 338/4 against Goa back in 2001/02 season in Vizag and also posted 333/9 against Tamil Nadu in 2011/12 in Bangalore.
