Out-of-favour Indian opener Murali Vijay has made it to the Tamil Nadu squad for the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-hander hasn’t had great time with the bat in South Africa and England. Eventually, he was dropped from the squad and didn’t find himself a place for the upcoming Test series against Windies.
After having ended his county stint, this stylish player, along with Washington Sundar will play domestic cricket in India. Sundar also didn’t have a great time in the last few months. After a bright start to his international career, the off-spinner slowly faded out of the limelight and injuries didn’t help the cause either. This will be a great opportunity for this duo to seek redemption into the Indian team.
A crucial tournament ahead for Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay has been one of the most reliable openers for India in Tests in the recent past. He was highly consistent and scored runs all across the globe. The 34-year-old played a crucial part in India getting to the number one spot in the Test rankings. However, 2018 hasn’t been as fruitful for him. After he was dropped, he featured in county cricket and looked impressive.
He could be a crucial member for the tough Australian tour ahead. Hence, his performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will speak volumes and could decide his selection. Also, it is crucial for Washington Sundar to deliver as he could stand a chance to get a place in the side for the Windies ODIs or T20Is. It will be interesting to see how this youngster fares after the injury that he has had in the recent past.
They will replace C Hari Nishanth and Yo Mahesh (injured) in the side. Tamil Nadu has won four out of the six games they played this season. They currently stand at the fifth position in their group and these two players could help the team do better.
