The Vijay Hazare Trophy is inching closer to the knockout phases as a few teams have already sealed their berth in the quarter-finals and the others are aiming to give a proper finishing touch in the last games remaining. The rain gods once again played the party spoilers for a while on Sunday, but eventually showed some mercy for the play to go on.

A rampant Jharkhand unit pretty much confirmed their spot in the Quarters as they continued their impressive run. They have been unbeaten thus far and although they have a game remaining, they’re a good distance away from their nearest competitors on the Elite Group C points table.

Varun Aaron’s stellar bowling spell helped Jharkhand bowl Gujarat out for a paltry 107 runs batting first. Rahul Singh and Utkarsh Shukla returned with a brace each. In reply, Ishan Kishan and troops stuttered a little bit, but the captain chipped in with a 52-ball 64 to win the game eventually by five wickets.

Tamil Nadu register a defeat at a crucial juncture

It has been a mediocre campaign for the four-time champions Tamil Nadu, who suffered their third defeat at a very crucial juncture in the group stages. They bowed down to Jammu & Kashmir, who on paper are never as strong as the South Indian side.

Umar Nazir chipped in with a brilliant spell as Tamil Nadu could only post 168 runs before getting bowled out in the first innings. Barring Abhinav Mukund and Murali Vijay, no one chipped in with a considerable contribution. Skipper Parvez Rasool played a captain’s knock and steered his side to a four-wicket win as J&K chased the total in 40.3 overs.

The ten-time Ranji Trophy finalists Rajasthan registered their seventh loss in eight matches as Bengal roasted them in a 43-over per side contest. Mahipal Lomror’s late blitz helped them score 177 runs in their quota of overs. Ishan Porel picked up four wickets for Bengal. In reply, Vivek Singh and Manoj Tiwary scored half-centuries to help them chase the total down in 37.4 overs.
