Vijay Mallya, the renowned Indian business tycoon, has been involved in an altercation with Indian banks for quite a few years now. The Kingfisher Airlines owes a staggering 9,000 crores to as many as 17 banks, who are straining every muscle to recover the amount from him. Ever since he has been absconding after flying out of India way back in March 2016.
Currently, he is staying in the United Kingdom (UK). A Delhi court has recently proclaimed offender for evading summons in January 2018. The court has also issued an open-ended non-bailable warrant against him for escaping the law of the land and summons in 2017. The 63-year-old has been accused of money laundering, but he has denied all the charges against him.
Earlier this month, the Royals Court of Justice had granted him permission to appeal against the UK Home Secretary’s order of transferring him to India to face trial in the fraud and money laundering charges. In the meantime, people aren’t happy with him by any means.
Vijay Mallya takes a firm stand for himself
Recently, Chris Gayle, the Windies batsman, had a chance of meeting Mallya at a Formulae 1 Circuit. Gayle was a part of the RCB franchise in the IPL, a team previously owned by Mallya. The Jamaican southpaw was over the moon after getting to rub shoulders with Mallya.
The 39-year-old Gayle captioned the picture and wrote, “Great to catch up with Big Boss @TheVijayMallya cheers #RockStar #F1.” Even Mallya posted a picture with the Universal Boss. “With my dear friend and Universe Boss @henrygayle Was good to be together at Silverstone for Formula One Qualifying,” Mallya’s tweet read.
But even in the post, people slammed him and called him a ‘chor’- thief. However, Mallya hit back at them, asking them to get their facts right before hurling allegations at him. Mallya took to Twitter and wrote, “For all those who saw my photo with the universe boss and my dear friend @henrygayle and commented, please pause and get your facts right about my being your CHOR. Ask your Banks why they are not taking 100 per cent of the money I have been offering.”
