India won their first Super 4 match of the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), beating Bangladesh by seven wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Prior to the match, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the tournament owing to a lower back injury. Rajasthan-born cricketer Deepak Chahar was drafted in place of Pandya.

In the meantime, Axar Patel also injured himself and Ravindra Jadeja was roped in as his replacement. However, Jadeja got the nod over Chahar in the previous match against the Tigers and subsequently, he made a comeback after more than a year. He didn’t disappoint by any stretch of the imagination and finished with stupendous figures of 10-0-29-4.

Moreover, he was also crowned as the Man of the Match. His spell restricted Mashrafe Mortaza and Co to a paltry 173 after which India chased down the target with 82 balls to spare. He picked up his first wicket in the form of Shakib Al Hasan, who got carried away and played a rash stroke after he got a couple of boundaries in the same over.

Mushfiqur Rahim went for a reverse sweep and threw his wicket away. The left-armer trapped Mohammad Mithun and Mahmudullah plumb in front to pick up his third and fourth wicket. Meanwhile, Vinod Kambli, the former Indian cricketer, is pretty happy with the competition for places in the national team. He also believes that Jadeja has a fair chance of playing the World Cup next year in England and Wales.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “I am liking the competition for places in the team. @imjadeja was not even in the squad and he comes back as a replacement and plays his 1st ODI in 15 months and delivers a MoM performance. For me, he is the dark horse leading into the 2019 World Cup. #INDvBAN #AsiaCup2018,”
